Becoming the City of Laurium

The Village of Laurium has started the initial process of determining whether it should change its form of government and become the City of Laurium. Michigan’s Most Northern City! However, prior to continuing the process, the Village Council and its Administration want to hear from you. We hope that you, the Village Residents, will help us determine what is best for our community.
PLEASE NOTE: This survey is to be completed by Laurium Residents Only.
1.Please provide Name:
2.Please provide Laurium Address (required):
(Required.)
3.Should the Village of Laurium continue the process of becoming the City of Laurium?(Required.)
4.If you stated “Yes” to the previous question, would you consider running on the next ballot for the Charter Commission? The Charter Commission would help create the formation of the City of Laurium.
5.If you stated “Yes” to the previous question, would you support the newly formed City in requesting 2.0 mills for an additional general operations millage? This would essentially reallocate the taxes currently going to Calumet Township to the City of Laurium. This would allow the newly formed City of Laurium to make additional noticeable improvements and help pay for certain aspects of the new or existing services being provided to its City of Laurium residents. This includes, but is not limited to: Continued Parks & Recreation updates and development, Improved Police and Fire Protection services, Election services, Assessing services, etc. You as a resident would still see a net decrease of approximately 0.27 mills on your taxes annually by approving this millage request.
6.If you stated “No” to the previous question, would you support the newly formed City in requesting 1.50 mills for an additional general operations millage? You as a resident would still see a net decrease of approximately 0.77 mills on your taxes annually by approving this millage request.
7.If you stated “No” to the previous question, would you support the newly formed City in requesting 1.00 mills for an additional general operations millage? You as a resident would still see a net decrease of approximately 1.27 mills on your taxes annually by approving this millage request.
