Purpose: Austroads Project NEF6393 aims to implement the National Automated Access System (NAAS), based on the Tasmanian Heavy Vehicle Access Management System (HVAMS).  This survey is intended to investigate current structural assessment practice and the future potential impacts on the NAAS of adopting a system such as HVAMS.

Question Title

* 1. Approximately what proportion of structures in your network do you hold the following information for? (These options are not mutually exclusive. E.g. First 3 options could all be at 100%)

Question Title

* 2. Approximately how often are the components of a bridge typically assessed when making a heavy vehicle access decision (assuming the structure has each of the components)?

  Never Rarely (<20%) Regularly (20-80%) Often (>80%)
Longitudinal superstructure elements (i.e. beams)
Transverse superstructure elements (i.e. transoms)
Deck
Abutments
Cap Beams
Piers

Question Title

* 3. Approximately how often are the following load effects typically assessed when making a heavy vehicle access decision?

  Never Rarely (<20%) Regularly (20-80%) Often (>80%)
Sagging bending moment
Hogging bending moment
Shear
Torsion
Tension loads
Compression loads
Serviceability checks (i.e. crack widths, fatigue)

Question Title

* 4. When making decisions about heavy vehicle access, approximately what proportion of your bridge structures are assessed using the following methods? (These options are not mutually exclusive. It is understood some structures may have more than one method used.)

Question Title

* 5. When making decisions about heavy vehicle access, approximately how frequently are the following methods for distributing vehicle load effects utilised? (Please answer as a percentage)

Question Title

* 6. Currently, how automated is the process for making a heavy vehicle access decision?

Question Title

* 7. What software is used in the process of making heavy vehicle access decisions?

Question Title

* 8. Does the current process include the production of an Interactive Map?

Question Title

* 9. If a Map is not currently provided to the regulator, please detail the information that is currently provided.

Question Title

* 10. Are you presently considering any updates or modifications to your current approach in making heavy vehicle access decisions? If yes, please describe these changes.

Question Title

* 11. What do you see as the strengths of your current/future heavy vehicle access decision making process?

Question Title

* 12. What do you see as the limitations of your current/future heavy vehicle access decision making process?

Question Title

* 13. Based on your understanding of the NAAS, which is based on HVAMS, are there any barriers that you believe would make implementing the NAAS from a structure’s perspective difficult within your jurisdiction?

Question Title

* 14. Your jurisdiction

Question Title

* 15. Are there any other comments you would like to make?
