Mountain biking in Aotearoa New Zealand |
Kia ora!
Thank you for helping with our research.
We are studying how people value mountain biking in New Zealand. This will help decision-makers understand and demonstrate the value created by opening (and maintaining) their forests and other areas to mountain biking.

There are no right or wrong answers in this survey. Please approach this survey as a tool to express your thoughts and honest views; we intend to allow the voice of mountain bikers to be heard by decision makers.
The survey should take approximately 15-20 minutes.
As thanks for your time, everyone who completes the survey may enter a prize draw to win one of two $250 Gift Vouchers.
Who should answer
The survey is for New Zealand residents and overseas visitors who are at least 18 years old who have gone mountain biking in New Zealand within the last three years.
Mountain biking trails can be found in planted forests, native forests, parks and other areas. An example of an entrance to a trail in a planted forest is the one in Whakarewarewa forest in Rotorua as shown below.

Who is doing the research
We are a team of researchers at Scion, a Crown Research Institute. This project is funded by Forest Growers Research.
The answers you provide will be kept confidential and will only be presented in aggregate form. If we use a quotation from one of your written answers in a publication, we will use generic identifiers (for example, “a biker who visits Woodhill weekly”). The raw data will only be accessible to the research team and the website host and is bound by confidentiality.
Ethics
This research is subject to the Scion research ethics protocol.
Prize draw terms
On completion of the survey, participants will be eligible to enter a prize drawing. Two winners will be drawn at random on 30 June 2023 from among the entries received. Your personal information will be deleted once the winners have been contacted.
