Reality Check Program
In addition to the Career Fair, during this event we also conduct the separate Reality Check Program, in which all students will participate. Reality Check is a FUN, yet EYE- OPENING financial education exercise.
Students choose a career "worthy only for their current efforts in school," are given the starting salary of that career & a simulated family situation. They must decide how to spend their income at booths (staffed by volunteers) which represent a typical monthly budget (housing, auto, insurance, food, childcare, etc.).
At each booth, they are given 'hi-med-low' choices.
Through this experience, many students see that their efforts in school are directly related to the type of job they can get, which is directly related to their quality of life ... and no matter how much you make, real life has responsibilities and money doesn't go as far as you think. [And maybe they'll even have more compassion for their parents trying to make ends meet!?]
Would anyone at your organization be interested in volunteering for Reality Check?
IF SO PLEASE CONTACT stephs@shoalschamber.com. We can provide you with a flyer and more information.
IMPORTANT NOTE: One person canNOT do BOTH the Career Fair Booth and Reality Check by themselves. But two or more people could swap up between the two venues during the day.
