The upcoming NSW Drug Summit, the first since 1999, presents an important opportunity to highlight the needs of families in relation to alcohol and other drug prevention, early intervention, treatment, and harm reduction.

During the previous Drug Summit, significant innovative reforms were introduced, resulting in improvements in the lives of people who use or have used drugs.

At Fams, we are committed to ensuring that families are recognised as a priority target group, emphasising the critical intersection between early intervention in child protection and the impact of addiction and dependence on children, young people, and their families.

The recent ANROWS study found that children who are experiencing DFV, parental AOD use and parental MH issues are twice as likely to be removed from their parent’s care. The most frequent reporting concern following DFV was parental AOD use.

To guide our advocacy efforts, we are keen to understand your experience as a service provider, and insights on the priority needs of your clients and community.
