Election

Andy Bray has responded to a Club advertisement to be a Director and the Club currently has at least one vacancy.

If the number of votes FOR this candidate is higher than the number AGAINST this candidate, then that candidate will be elected as a Director of the Club, with effect from the official announcement of the result of the vote, for a term of office expiring at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting in 2027.

The voting is now open and will close on the 8th November 2024. The results will be available on the Club's website soon after at https://mercedes-benz-club.co.uk/club-news/

NOTE: You can only vote once per computer address. If a joint member at the same address needs to vote, they should do so via a smartphone with WiFi switched off. This will give their vote a different computer address.

Candidate: Andy Bray

Andy has been a Member since 2018 and has been proposed by Philip John and seconded by Jimmy Marshall and Mic Bennett

Andy Bray
Andy Bray’s statement:

I wholeheartedly endorse the work done by the current Board in stabilizing our Club and laying solid foundations for the years ahead. It is my intention to help in continuing this work as a team-member of the Board and as a proponent of good management practice.

The nature of personal transport is set to fundamentally change in the coming decade, with declines in internal combustion engine cars, car ownership and, with the development of autonomous driving, possibly the need to drive a car at all (though I am a little sceptical on this!). We cannot yet tell where these changes will leave car clubs in the long-term. However, we can be sure that our need for personal mobility, our love of engineering, and our affection for 'classics' will continue, along with our desire to spend time socializing and travelling with like-minded people, so car clubs will have a future. The challenge will be identifying that future and keeping our Club aligned to it and I see that as an essential strategic role for all Board Members, myself included if duly elected.

On a more practical and immediate note though, I am interested in developing our membership function to do all we can to recruit, engage and retain members within this changing environment.

Similarly, and perhaps because of my RO role, I am happy to support the Regional and Model Register groups, through which we deliver most of the benefits of our Mercedes-Benz Club. Indeed, it is my wife's and my participation in our SL at events, including tours, that has formed the basis of my commitment to the Club.
