About the Survey

The proposed changes to the Maritime Archaeology Act will contribute to increased identification, registration, and protection of the State’s maritime cultural heritage. Under current legislation some maritime archaeological material is not protected and, in some situations, has been damaged and degraded. The summaries below describe the significance of the proposed changes.

The purpose of the consultation is to invite organisations, agencies and individuals to provide input on matters of importance, or potential impact in relation to proposed amendments to the Maritime Archaeology Act so that these can be considered in the drafting of the legislation. Government agencies are also provided with an opportunity to review their own areas of regulatory responsibility.
