“Iluminando el Futuro”: STEM Outreach Initiative |
Volunteer Intake Form
"Iluminado el Futuro" (Lighting the Future) is an initiative that seeks to train a new generation of volunteers in science communication in Latin America. In this project, volunteers are called STEM Outreach Ambassadors. A call is open to all who are part of universities or scientific research centers, including students (undergraduate and graduate) and teachers, that are bilingual in Spanish.
Selected applicants will be trained through two stages: a self-paced virtual training and a synchronous workshop. The virtual training content includes methodology to plan, design and deliver outreach activities in Spanish. During this training, bilingual instructors, IEEE members, and experienced STEM educators, or as the initiative calls them, “Experteers”, will provide relevant concepts, best practices, and techniques for teaching light-based science and interacting with children, youth, and the general public. The synchronous workshop follows as an interactive session where enrolled STEM Outreach Ambassadors exchange ideas, discuss outreach plans, and receive feedback from peers, instructors and experteers to pursue their local outreach.
The IEEE Photonics Society also supports and promotes participants enrolled with grants of $200-$500 to deliver activities. Each ambassador, who completes the project, is eligible to obtain this grant.
If you are interested in being part of this initiative and you want to receive training as a STEM Outreach Ambassador, please fill out the following intake form.
