Library Service Budget Consultation 2025 |
Introduction
Over the last six months all services across the council have been working hard to identify savings and proposals to meet the council’s funding gap for 2025/26. The Library Service must find savings of £250,000 from an overall budget of £3.9 million. We have identified the following savings and would like your views on our proposals. These are:
- to discontinue the Mobile Library Service in order to retain all 14 libraries and the Home Library Service. This saves around £125,000
- to cease purchasing hard-copy newspapers and magazines on a permanent basis. This saves around £28,000
- to reduce slightly the self-service opening hours at the four Core Plus libraries which are Chipping Barnet, Colindale, Edgware and Finchley Church End. This saves around £15,000.
We are also investigating if we can extend the number of staffed sessions in some libraries in the future.
Throughout the questionnaire we have explained our budget proposals in full. Further information on how we have developed these proposals are provided in our Library Service Budget Consultation Summary Document.
The questionnaire should only take around ten minutes of your time. Thank you for your time – your participation is to this important consultation is greatly appreciated.
