Scalds due to hot tap water can cause severe injuries in very young children and the elderly. This is because their skin is a lot thinner and is damaged more easily. Hot bath water is responsible for the highest number of fatal and severe scalding injuries among young children. Being burned or scalded as a child can mean years of painful treatment and in the worst cases will result in many operations.
The majority of scalding injuries due to hot tap water are avoidable. This survey is aimed at raising awareness of the dangers of hot water in the home.
