We kindly invite you to share with us your opinion and understanding regarding the degree of implementation of the introduction and/or implementation of the Learning Outcomes/Competences approach in Higher Education. There is an on-going global debate about shifting from an expert driven model to a learners’ driven model. The expert driven model relies on the delivery of knowledge from the teacher to the learner. The learners’ driven model places the learner at the centre of the educational process. This requires a pedagogical shift so that degree programs are based on the Learning Outcomes/Competencies approach.
For the purpose of this questionnaire the following definitions are used:
“Learning outcomes” means statements of what a learner knows, understands and is able to do on completion of a learning process, which are defined in terms of knowledge, skills and competence;
“Knowledge” means the outcome of the assimilation of information through learning. Knowledge is the body of facts, principles, theories and practices that is related to a field of work or study. Knowledge may be either theoretical and/or factual;
“Skills” means the ability to apply knowledge and use know-how to complete tasks and solve problems. Skills may be either cognitive (involving the use of logical, intuitive and creative thinking) or practical (involving manual dexterity and the use of methods, materials, tools and instruments);
“Competence” means the proven ability to use knowledge, skills and personal, social and/or methodological abilities, in work or study situations and in professional and personal development. Competence requires responsibility and autonomy.
