Share your thoughts on teachers' education program admissions

Thank you for clicking the link and participating! The survey should only take 5 to 10 minutes to complete and at the end you are welcome to enter your name and email address for the draw for a $100 Amazon gift card.

The purpose of this survey is to gain insight on the value and use of an assessment to measure applicants’ soft skills who are applying to teachers' education programs. Soft skills assessments measure the skills necessary for success in the teaching profession that cannot be evaluated through traditional quantitative measures (for example, communication skills, empathy, ethics, motivation, resilience, self-awareness).

For reference, the survey will refer to the following types of soft skills assessments:

Situational Judgement Test (SJT)
Value-alignment assessment
One-way asynchronous interview
(A full description of each will be provided later in the survey)

Thank you!

Question Title

* 10. Soft skills assessments evaluate an applicant’s non-quantitative skills. Below you will find a brief description of three types of soft skills assessments used in university admissions:

Situational Judgement Test (SJT): applicants watch videos depicting personal and professional dilemmas and are asked to type their responses to the questions about the scenario. Each scenario evaluates what an applicant would do in a tough situation and, more importantly, why. These responses are then reviewed by raters, a diverse group of people who undergo extensive training. Each applicant is rated by multiple raters so that the final aggregate score programs receive reflects diverse perspectives. The SJT is a time-based assessment meant to elicit genuine responses. Programs use scores as another data point to evaluate the strength of applicants’ soft skills for success both in-program and in professional practice.

Value-alignment assessment: standardized, objective way to find applicants whose values in a program more closely align with their own. Key program stakeholders complete the assessment to generate a Program Profile, which is compared with each applicant’s own ranking of values and priorities, resulting in “fit” scores for each applicant. This assessment enables programs to identify top applicants for program fit and alignment.

One-way asynchronous video interview: Applicants are probed on their motivation, career goals, and interest in the profession. They video record their answers to three standardized one-way questions. It is a time-based assessment meant to elicit genuine responses. Programs watch and rate the responses to gain insight into how an applicant presents themselves professionally, their communication skills and their motivation to apply to the program.

Based on these descriptions, please rate your perceived value of these assessments (1 being the most valuable, 3 being the least) to your application when applying a teachers' education program:
