2022 Kentucky Writers' Day - Video Submissions
Once again, the Kentucky Arts Council will celebrate Kentucky Writers' Day all month long in April, sharing short videos of Kentucky writers reading their work. We will post these videos on Facebook all month during April, and we invite you to participate!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Writers living in Kentucky; or writers who are native Kentuckians or with a strong Kentucky connection, but no longer living in the state.
HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
Record yourself with the video camera on your smart phone or other device as you read from something you’ve written and to which you retain the rights. It can be a poem or an excerpt of fiction, creative nonfiction or a play.
RULES
Your video should be between one and two minutes. The shorter they are, the better chance you have of it being used. That time limit INCLUDES your introduction.
Videos should focus on one piece. If your poem or excerpt only takes one minute to read, please do not fill the remaining allowed time with readings from your other work.
Submissions are limited to ONE video per person.
Work read must be work you retain the rights to.
You MUST include a transcript of your video so that arts council staff can caption it for the deaf and hard of hearing. Videos submitted without transcripts WILL NOT be used.
Follow this script:
“Hi! I’m [NAME] and I live in [NAME OF YOUR CITY OR COUNTY, OR IF YOU’RE A NATIVE KENTUCKIAN, BUT ARE CURRENTLY LIVING OUTSIDE OF KENTUCKY, TELL US WHERE YOU ARE].
“I’ll be reading [TITLE OF YOUR WORK].”
OR in the case of an excerpt
“I’ll be reading from [TITLE OF YOUR WORK].”
And then read from your poem or excerpt.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Kentucky Arts Council will review each video for content and brevity. Submitted videos must be appropriate for middle and high school students.
Once recorded, upload materials required below. DEADLINE IS 4 p.m. ET, March 14, 2022. We hope you’ll join us in this celebration of Kentucky literature!
