There are currently works being undertaken by TMR  to upgrade the section of Shute Harbour Rd from Paluma Rd to Tropic Road to four lanes. The Chamber fully supports this upgrade.

Not widely publicised is that the works include installing traffic lights at Macarthur and William Murray Dr, despite initial plans to install roundabouts at these intersections.

The Chamber is concerned about this proposal because
-              adequate public consultation has not been carried out,
-              roundabouts are safer and maintain traffic flow better than lights
-               in keeping with Council policy and to maintain the relaxed amenity of tourist regions (e.g. Port Douglas, Noosa), roundabouts are the preferred option
-              This fundamentally changes the entrance to the Whitsundays

Together with the Residents Traffic Action Group, we seek to conduct a broader public consultation, a vital step that we believe TMR neglected to perform at an appropriate level.
