Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra announced her "Keep Idaho Students Safe" initiative to support schools in their efforts to increase safety.
The initiative builds on existing efforts and adds three pieces:
Arming teachers with knowledge through a new three-credit safety course;
Increasing funding for a trained security presence in schools through a new security grant;
Adding a state crisis communication counselor to support schools in crisis and help coordinate proactive prevention efforts.
To finalize this $21 million initiative before submitting a supplemental budget request to the Legislature in January 2019, Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra seeks feedback back from Idahoans through this online survey. In the survey, participants will learn more about each of the three proposals and can offer feedback. The last section is for Idahoans to submit their ideas to improve support to schools for safety.
