Kawerau District Council is committed to ensuring fair and effective representation for our community. Council is completing a representation review following the introduction of Māori wards in November 2023.
Council has considered feedback from the early engagement and on 17 July 2024 adopted the initial proposal for formal consultation comprising:
  • The Mayor and eight (8) councillors
  • Two ‘at large’ (district-wide) councillors
  • Three Māori ward councillors
  • Three general ward councillors
  • No community boards.
We are seeking your valuable feedback on our initial proposal, which aims to ensure the council reflects the district's communities of interest and can effectively advocate for their interests.
Submissions close on Monday 26 August 2024.
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday 11 September 2024.
