The Melissa Institute CEU Request
Safety and mental health are ever more critical concerns for teachers, school administrators, school counselors, and parents committed to promoting students' well-being and academic excellence. Not only are unsafe classrooms and schools, bullying and violent behavior, depression, stress, and anxiety formidable obstacles to learning, but they can also become overwhelming for teachers and other school personnel trying to manage these challenges.
This course consists of two parts. First, The Melissa Institute’s Scientific Director, Dr. Donald Meichenbaum, will discuss strategies to enhance the welcoming and secure environment of schools, as well as ways to improve their pedagogical effectiveness. He will review factors that contribute to some students' academic progress while others struggle. He will share proven methods for strengthening resilience among students, educators, and parents. In addition, Dr. Meichenbaum will conduct a critical examination of various approaches to enhance safety in schools. In the second part, a team of child/pediatric psychologists from Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will join Dr. Meichenbaum in a live panel case consultation session of difficult situations being managed by participants in the course.
