20mph or 30mph?  What do you think?

There is strong evidence that reducing the speed limit to 20mph saves lives, lowers road traffic accidents, reduces serious injury and cuts pollution.  If this is the case, there are three broad areas to consider:
  • Should we reduce 30mph speed limits in Eastbourne?
  • Where in the town should we reduce the limit?
  • How much should we spend to do it?
Tell us what you think below.

If 20mph is introduced with signs, but without traffic calming measures, it is relatively inexpensive.  For example, in 2023/24 Dorset County Council is projecting a spend of just £5,000 to cover the cost of each scheme up to £75,000 for the whole County.

Question Title

* 1. According to www.brake.org.uk the number of serious injuries and deaths doubles when the speed limit is 30mph rather than 20mph.  For every 1 mph that the average traffic speed is reduced, road traffic accidents decrease by 5%.  In your opinion is it worth reducing 30mph speed limits to reduce RTAs?

Question Title
