Cold Spring School District |
2021-2022 School Year
Independent Study Survey
The Cold Spring School is preparing for the start of school in the Fall. Our first day of school is August 17, 2021. We are planning to return to a normal school schedule starting promptly at 8:25 AM for all students. The playground will be supervised beginning at 8:00 AM. Release times are as follows:
- Kindergarten will end the day at 2:00 PM;
- First and Second Grade will end at 2:40 PM; and,
- Third through Sixth Grades will end at 3:00 PM.
Wednesday will be an early dismissal for all students to provide time for teacher professional development, collaboration and planning. The Wednesday release times are as follows:
- Kindergarten will end the day at 1:45 PM;
- First and Second Grade will end at 1:55 PM; and,
- Third through Sixth Grades will end at 2:30 PM.
*Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are dismissed at 11:30 am every day during the first three weeks of school. The optional Dolphin Center will begin on Tuesday, August 17th until 5:30 PM (more information to follow).
Recently, the Center for Disease Control and the California Department of Public Health issued new regulations related to safety protocols in the classroom. We are working with our local County Public Health Department to guide our policies with respect to providing a safe and healthy in-person learning environment. We will be providing more details before the start of the school year as these become available to us.
Cold Spring School will not be providing a remote learning option next year. All classes and students will be in-person. Students will not have the opportunity or option to stay home and Zoom into the classroom. This is not feasible as we accommodate the large enrollment and the full-day class schedule.
The State has adopted legislation (AB 130) that requires all public school districts in California to offer “Independent Study” for any student whose health would be put at risk by in-person instruction, as determined by the parent or guardian of the student. This is NOT remote learning as you have become accustomed to during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Similarly, this new “Independent Study” is different from the Independent Study that we offer to students for short absences from school.
Because of the growth in our enrollment, we are unable to provide the State mandated “Independent Study” through our campus. Therefore, we are working with the Santa Barbara County Office of Education to offer families requesting the State mandated “Independent Study” the opportunity to participate in a program offered by another public school district in Santa Barbara County, i.e., Buellton Union School District or Orcutt School District. If a family participates in the “Independent Study” program, the child will be provided an educational program that is consistent with the program of that district and NOT the Cold Spring School District.
The State-mandated “Independent Study” program should not be confused with the short absence Independent Study program offered by the Cold Spring School District. This program will continue to be available for student absences of at least three consecutive days to no more than 15 consecutive days.
As we prepare for the new school year, we would appreciate you letting us know if you would like your son/daughter to participate in the State mandated “Independent Study” program specified above, offered by a neighboring County public school district. We are asking ALL families to complete this short survey by Friday, July 23rd.
