What is the event about?

Since 1911 women and men have come together to advance women’s rights and employment equality. Annually on March 8, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated. The social, political, economic and cultural achievements of women are acclaimed globally, while raising the issues surrounding continuing gender inequality. In recent years there has been a greater push for gender equity, which is about fairness for all not just equal rights. Fairness considers the intersection with gender, race, ability, sexuality and other forms of discrimination.

For a number of years a partnership of local organisations have produced an annual community event to celebrate IWD. In 2020 we want to hear from young people, we want to include you in the conversation and understand how gender inequity impacts you and to discuss what our community can do to improve gender equity for all.

Please note we need to hear from you before Sunday 25th August 2019.
