Concise Summary
This research study aims to investigate how subordinates’ perceptions of leadership effectiveness influence their stress levels in the Army. Your participation will involve completing an online survey, which should take at most approximately 20 minutes. The survey will include questions about your perceptions of your immediate leader and your stress levels. While there are no significant risks associated with participation, reflecting on leadership or stress-related topics may cause minor emotional discomfort. The study findings will contribute to improving leadership development programs and strategies to reduce stress among Army personnel.

Why am I being asked?
You are being asked to participate in a research study conducted by Mr. Michael Naterlin at Purdue University Global. You have been invited to participate because you are at least 18 years of age, a service member in the Army, and meet the criteria of working under a designated leader for at least a month. Your participation is voluntary, and your decision to join or not join the study will not affect your current relationship with your organization. You may withdraw from the study at any time without any consequences.

What is the purpose of this research?
The purpose is to better understand how leadership influences subordinate stress to improve leadership training, resiliency, and organizational well-being in the context of the Army.

What procedures are involved?
If you agree to participate in this research, you will be asked to:

1. Answer demographic questions, such as your age, sex, ethnicity, service status, rank, time in service, and time served under your current leadership.
2. Complete an online survey, which includes questions about your perceptions about leadership effectiveness and your stress levels.

Approximately 100 participants will be involved in this research.

What are the potential risks and discomforts?
The risks associated with this research are minimal. However:

1. You may feel minor discomfort when reflecting on stress or leadership experiences.
2. If any questions cause discomfort, you may skip them.
3. If immediate distress is experienced it is advised to call 9-1-1.

Are there benefits to taking part in the research?
While there are no direct benefits to you, this research will contribute to the understanding of leadership effectiveness in reducing stress among service members. This knowledge may help improve leadership development and stress management strategies in Army organizations.

What about privacy and confidentiality?
Your participation in this study is confidential. Only the research team will know your identity as a participant. The data collected will not include identifiable information, and survey responses will be stored in a secure, encrypted database.

To ensure the anonymity of the survey participants, in using Survey Monkey, the researchers will not be collecting IP addresses.
