Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy |
The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority is preparing a Watershed-Based Resource Management Strategy in accordance with Ontario Regulation 686/21. Under provincial legislation, conservation authorities are required to deliver the following programs and services to address the risk of natural hazards:
- Flood Forecasting and Warning
- Drought or Low Water Response
- Commenting on Land Use Planning Applications
- Regulating Development in Natural Hazard Areas
These programs and services must address areas affecting the management of natural hazards including river or stream valleys, unstable soils or bedrock, areas affected by flooding, erosion or dynamic beaches, and wetlands.
Below is a series of questions to seek your input on the delivery and improvement of these mandatory programs and services. We would welcome and appreciate your feedback by November 18, 2024. This feedback will be used to prepare an interim Watershed Management Strategy that will be followed by more extensive stakeholder and public consultation in 2025 when the RVCA develops a more detailed and comprehensive Watershed Management Strategy. Next year’s Strategy will dive deeper into RVCA’s work and encompass all its programs and services as the RVCA prepares a new Strategic Plan.
