CHAPMAN SWIFTS REC BASKETBALL

In an effort to make basketball more accessible/available for Chapman Students, a group of us parents are working to create a Chapman Basketball group to help field basketball teams in the PP&R Golden Ball League by reaching out to potential Chapman players and coaches.  If you have a student that is interested in playing basketball this winter, please fill out survey below.  Goldenball team sign up is done in early October, so please fill this out as soon as possible so that we can put together teams and figure out how many coaches/assistant coaches we need.  Please note, sign up for Goldball is by team, not individual, so put your information here if you want your player on a Chapman team.
And please be ready to volunteer as an assistant or head coach.  We can not form a team unless we get coaches for that team!

What are our goals for Chapman Basketball:
  • Create a network of parents to help facilitate basketball at Chapman and provide support to create teams for both boys and girls, grades 3rd-5th.
  • Open gym for 1st and 2nd graders once a week.
  • Create a support structure that is completely volunteer based, try to eliminate the pay to play model.
  • Provide access to basketball to all.  Keep costs as low as possible for all families, and provide scholarships for families in need.  Last year, each player paid approximately $90 for the season (for league cost and jersey cost)
  • Create a positive atmosphere that is focused more on fun and teaching good sportsmanship than winning.

Information on Golden Ball:
  • Golden Ball is a rec league hosted by Portland Parks and Rec.  Golden Ball games are in January and February on Saturdays, with practices beginning November/December. Practices will be at Chapman.
  • Due to Golden Ball rules, we need to make sure all teams are 10 players maximum.  The ideal # of players for a team is 7-8 players.  If a grade has 2 teams, we will need a minimum of 15 players total to make 2 teams.
