Volunteer Registration Overview

The DDD is looking forward to hosting a successful Hot August Stroll on Saturday, August 24, 2024. Our refreshed approach allows for a full day of promotions for our historic Downtown Hammond. It’s a safe, family-friendly, and free-to-attend celebration in the heart of the downtown district. Local musicians, artists, and small businesses provide quality services for all ages, cultivating a one-of-a-kind atmosphere that can only be found in Downtown Hammond. And guess what? We want you to be a part of it!

Here is a quick overview of the Hot August Stroll schedule of events as follows (subject to change):

Hot August Stroll Volunteer Rules:

Please review the following information below regarding event rules and responsibilities. 

General Rules:
1. Hot August Stroll is expected to operate rain or shine. Dependable volunteer participation is crucial to hosting a successful event. 
1. The DDD reserves the right to condense or extend event hours.
2. Volunteer profanity (verbal or otherwise), shouting and disruption during HAS will not be tolerated.
3. Alcohol and tobacco use are not allowed during volunteer hours.
4. Must be 15 years of age or older to volunteer.
5. Volunteers under the age of 18 need parent/guardian permission to participate.  

Volunteer Roles and Duties:
1. Approved volunteers will be placed in designated spot for Hot August Stroll at the DDD’s discretion and based on the time slot you signed up for. 
2. Volunteers may be placed in the main event and music stage locations as described above. 
3. Volunteers can expect the following duties during their shift: Setting up tents and tables, checking IDs, giving bracelets, directing guests, serving refreshments, taking money and making change, checking-in/ assisting businesses, answering questions, handing out material, surveying the crowd, assisting the staff and committee in general, or picking up. Other responsibilities may be added. 
4. Volunteers will receive placement and details via email. A brief training for your duties will take place at the beginning of your shift. 
Inclement Weather Clause:
1. Hot August Stroll is expected to operate rain or shine.
2. Hot August Stroll may be canceled or postponed in the event of: (1) A state-issued state of emergency; (2) A severe weather warning, and/or (3) City of Hammond closure.
3. In the event of a cancellation, the Hammond DDD may choose to reschedule the event to a later date. Registered volunteers will be expected to participate on the rescheduled date.

Hold-Harmless Clause and Insurance:
All authorized vendors participating in Hot August Stroll 2024 shall be individually responsible for any loss, personal injury, deaths, and/or any other damage that may occur as a result of the vendor's negligence or that of its servants, agents and employees, and all vendors hereby agree to indemnify and save the Hammond Downtown Development District and its event partner the Hammond Regional Arts Center harmless from any loss, costs, damages, and other expenses, including attorney's fees, suffered or incurred by the Hammond Downtown Development District and its event partner Hammond Regional Arts Center by reason of the vendors' negligence or that of its servants, agent and employees; provided that the vendors shall not be responsible nor required to indemnify the Hammond Downtown Development District for the Hammond Downtown Development District's own negligence or that of the Hammond Regional Arts Center, or servants, agents and employees. Because no insurance is provided to participants in Hot August Stroll 2024, each vendor is encouraged to carry his/her own product liability insurance.
