'The Pond' at Safety Bay earns its reputation as a world-class kiteboarding location due to its ideal wind conditions, vast shallow waters, and scenic surroundings. Its consistent breezes and flat water, makes it a haven for both beginners and seasoned kiteboarders, offering ample space to practice tricks and kite recreationally. The Pond has become a vibrant community hub within our sport and a popular facility used by many.
One of the factors keeping The Pond ‘open’ and as a body of flat water, is the dredging that occurs each year to carve the boating channel to the Bent Street Jetty. This boat ramp is looking to be closed, meaning the Pond is at risk of closing up and becoming sand meaning we will lose this iconic spot.
Kiteboarding WA will be advocating to the local council and key stakeholders, highlighting the importance of this world-famous location being used by many as a popular kiteboarding, water sports facility and community hub. We need your input to help us justify and show the importance of the Pond to our community and kiteboarders, wing foilers, windsurfers and many more users locally and worldwide.
