Dear Colleague -
We are sending you the following survey because of your connection to research at community college global counterparts. Using the definition of Raby and Valeau (2009), community college global counterpart is an institution that offers a more advanced curriculum than secondary school and serves as a lower-cost pathway that gives options for university overflow for adult learners, displaced workers, life-long learners, workforce learners, and non-traditional learners. This institutional type is known by several names including Colleges of Further Education, Community College, Polytechnic, Technical College and TAFE Technical and Further Education.
The goal of the survey is to document how community college global counterparts define, track and support issues related to student completion. Our emphasis is on institutional and national policies that profile the number of individuals within a cohort who graduate or complete their program within a certain amount of time. We define completion as a defined set of requirements that are taken and finished by the student for a) short-term diplomas, certificates, or industry skill credentials; b) multi-year course work leading to a degree and graduation; c) multi-year course work leading to the preparation to transfer to a university (OECD 2012).
Information collected will be used to further research on the topic of completion agendas at community college global counterparts.
We invite you to share your experiences and expertise.
Please only answer this survey if
a) you work at a non-US community college global counterpart
or
b) you work for a US community college that has ongoing collaboration with a non-US community college global counterpart.
We highly value your opinion, and thank you very much for participating! This survey should take no more than 5-10 minutes to complete, and your feedback will play a vital part in shaping our research and recommendations. Please feel free to forward this survey to others in the field.
This research project is being conducted by Rosalind Latiner Raby (California State University, Northridge and California Colleges for International Education (CCIE); Jan Friedel (Iowa State University), Martin Jephcote (Cardiff University School of Social Sciences), Edward Valeau (ELS Group), Miriam Brown Tyson (Iowa State University), and LisaMarie Miramontes (Peralta Community College District).
All respondents will get a summary of the survey results.
The survey will be kept open until May 30, 2013.
