About the Course:
This two-day course will provide a foundation for those participating in the North American Bat Monitoring Program, conducting environmental assessments, monitoring at wind energy developments and more.
The session starts with an introduction of ultrasound, the basics of bat acoustics and bat detector technology. The session continues with the “Ecology of Echolocation” and clutter continuum in a species-specific context. Cori will also cover species identification, site selection best practices and study design.
The analysis component of this course focuses on practice with workflow patterns, raw file management, and using Kaldeidoscope Pro to efficiently identify files to species and species-groups.
The course will finish with understanding bat detectors (passive units), driving transects and techniques used with active detectors. Weather permitting, there will be hands-on practice in the field recording bats.
