Fire and Safety
Remember R A C E Each employee is required to know our policyKnowing the policy- could save a life, if you respond appropriately.
The "R" stands for:
#1 Remove / Rescue:While yelling Dr. Red and the location you are attempting to remove residents/visitors from that areaWhat ???
The "A" Stands for:
#2 Alarm- get  the nearest pull station activated!

Once the alarm is pulled this alerts the entire building and the fire department, you need to announce over the paging system ( Dr. Red followed  by the location of the FIRE and must be repeated 3 times).
Now that the alarm is sounding, where do I report too!
This question can only be answered once the alarm sounds and you listen to the series of horns that tells you the location of our problem.
Listen to the series of the first horns- is it upstairs or downstairs. All staff must respond once the alarm sounds, even if you are on break or lunch.
The fire alarm triggers all perimeter doors to unlock and remain unlocked until the "all clear" is sounded. During this time these doors must be monitored.
The homefree system still functions.
Refer to Fire Safety addendum for homecare.
All desk phones have an (Emergency-Page) button that will allow you to page overhead throughout the building.

                                                                        EVACUATION PLANS

In an emergency situation requiring a total evacuation:
Refer to the Comprehensive Emergency Plan

Horizontal Evacuation

A horizontal evacuation requires movement of those in a hazardous area of the facility to safety within the facility.
In an emergency situation requiring evacuation of a localized area of the facility, the Person in Charge of that area will make the decision to evacuate. The Charge Person should announce the emergency call for additional help if necessary.
The evacuation will proceed with the Chain Method as described here:
      * Safe area includes C-wing basement beyond lobby doors or the corridor leading to the exterior exit door #15.
      * The charge nurse may use their discretion in defining the evacuation route based on situational criteria.
      * Search all program areas thoroughly (check bathrooms, offices and other congregate areas).
      * Remove participants/registrants to a safe area, specified by the Charge Person.
      * Utilize the Chain Method using all available staff.
      * Form a line with available staff leading to the safe area.
      * Remove those closest to the fire area first.
      * Pass them along the line to safety.
      * Move in the direction that does not require passing the source of the emergency.
      * Assign staff to receiving area and place identifying wrist bands on participants/registrants upon arrival
         to safe area.
      * As areas are evacuated, close doors and identify that area has been evacuated with orange markers.

Utilize Emergency Call List to contact family members/responsible party to alert to current situation.
