FESSH Giant 2025 Nominations

The Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (FESSH) is inviting its member national hand societies to nominate one of their own members for the FESSH Giant 2025 award. The award recognises and acknowledges surgeons who have greatly contributed to hand surgery over the last decades.

Nomination Criteria
  • Member of BSSH
  • Age 55 years or older (preferably still in active practice)

A Giant must also have achieved 3 or more of the following criteria, which must be detailed on the nomination form:

1. Ground breaking achievements
2. Research, publications and presentations
3. Influence and impact and recognition by peers
4. Sustainability
5. Mentorship role
6. Education
7. Organisation

Please use the form below to nominate your candidate and tell us how they meet at least three of the required achievements.

After the deadline, the nominees who meet the criteria will be voted on by the BSSH Council in an anonymous vote on the electronic voting software Mi-Voice using a single transferable voting methodology. Please note that the BSSH Council will use the information provided on this form when voting so please be as detailed as possible.

The deadline to receive nominations is Sunday 12th January 2025 at 23:59.

Your nominee must meet three or more of the following criteria to be put forward. Please indicate which criteria they meet and provide examples of their achievements. This information is used by the BSSH Council when voting so please be as detailed as possible.
4.Ground breaking achievements
They have introduced new ideas, concepts, or technologies, or have made significant improvements within the field of hand surgery
5.Research, publications and presentations
They have conducted research that has contributed to the advancement of knowledge within the field of hand surgery and has documented the work in scientific publications or has shared the ideas and findings through presentations at international conferences and meetings
6. Influence, impact and recognition by peers:
They have had a demonstrable impact on the field of hand surgery and have contributed to its growth and development at a national and/or international level, this contribution is recognised and respected by their colleagues and peers
7.Mentorship Role
They play a role as mentor for emerging professionals in the field of hand surgery, passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation
8.Sustainability
They have been active over a long period and continue to contribute to the field of hand surgery
9. Education
They are active in organising and/or providing education to pass on knowledge and experience
10.Organisation
They have been a BSSH or FESSH Committee or Council member
