GuideStar India has built the capacity of NPOs for greater transparency resulting in certification of NPOs. The GuideStar India Certification labels: Platinum, Gold and Silver are considered the gold standard for NPO due diligence in India. Its Certified NPOs cover diverse thematic areas and are present across India. 

 

 GuideStar India’s Capacity Building for Greater Transparency
NPO credibility is a barrier to giving as per several donor research reports. Since 2015, GuideStar India has been working with NPOs to strengthen their capacity to comply with statutory requirements and improve their levels of transparency and public accountability. GuideStar India helps NPOs understand the intent behind public disclosures, provides reporting frameworks that make information comprehensible and comparable, provides the tools and safe space for public disclosure. Through its engagement with regulators, foundations and philanthropists, GuideStar India puts across the challenging circumstances and resource constraints in which NPOs operate and shares insights to streamline their demands for disclosures and reporting without compromising their need to know results and impact.

GuideStar India studies other local and global transparency and due diligence frameworks from time to time and also contributes its expertise in NPO due diligence to national and global initiatives on NPO transparency. GuideStar India is in the process of launching an upgraded due diligence framework that allows NPOs to reflect on key questions related to all aspects of their functioning from mobilising resources to implementing programmes to reporting results, including creating learning loops. GuideStar India believes that when an organisation answers these questions, it realises the importance of various aspects of its own functioning, and when it shares responses in the public domain, it gives its stakeholders the opportunity to be sensitised to its journey and become truly appreciative of its approach, its values, and become vested in its mission.
