From the climate crisis to Covid-19, the challenges of our time don’t respect national borders – they are global. So our response to them must be too.

A major global consultation on the future of the UN closes in days – so we’re asking Avaazers across the planet to tell us what we all want from the UN. Let’s all take it, and have the results be formally submitted as one of the biggest global surveys of public opinion!

Take the survey below and let’s help fix the UN.

How strongly do you agree or disagree with the following statements:

Question Title

* 1. We need the United Nations. While the United Nations is not perfect, we do need it as a global governance body to meet the global challenges of our times.

Question Title

* 2. The United Nations needs changing. In order to fulfill its role in today's fast changing world, the United Nations needs to evolve and change to meet the challenges of our time.

Question Title

* 3. No more Super Power veto. The United Nations must ensure that urgent decisions ranging from climate change to human rights cannot be blocked by a single country disagreeing. Where consensus can’t be reached, decisions should be taken by a strong majority of member states.

Question Title

* 4. A World Citizens’ Initiative. The United Nations should establish a tool for citizens to directly suggest proposals to the UN member states, and require a vote if the demand has received strong support from citizens across the world.

Question Title

* 5. Gender equality at the heart of the UN. The United Nations should ensure that gender equality policies are fully implemented across the organization and in all work with partners, and should take all necessary steps to enforce those policies when offices and agencies fail to follow them.

Question Title

* 6. Citizens as key participants. The United Nations must ensure that civil society and citizens have a real say in the decision making of the UN, such as the annual climate conferences.

Question Title

* 7. A people’s Secretary-General. The United Nations should allow citizens and civil society to participate in choosing the next Secretary General to lead the UN.

Question Title

* 8. Accountability for multinational corporations. The United Nations has courts that hold people and countries to account, but not corporations. An international court should be established with the power to hold multinational corporations to account for harming people, communities and the environment across national borders.

Question Title

* 9. Why do you think the world needs the United Nations? (We’d be keen to get your opinion. But you can also skip and finish the survey)

Question Title

* 10. Do you have any other suggestions to improve the UN? (We’d be keen to get your opinion. But you can also skip and finish the survey)
