Minnesota School Garden Survey |
Survey Overview
This survey is distributed by Minnesota Ag in the Classroom and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. This survey is intended for teachers, school staff, or any other individuals involved in school garden initiatives. Representatives from schools that have or do not have a school growing space are invited to participate in this survey.
Our Definition of a School Garden/Growing Space
For the purposes of this survey, a "school garden" or "growing space" is defined as any designated area within school property where plants are cultivated for educational and/or culinary purposes. This may include but is not limited to: vegetable gardens, pollinator gardens, hydroponic towers, or indoor growing spaces that are actively used for plant cultivation, teaching, or learning.
A Note on Duplicate Responses
We welcome multiple responses representing the same school garden. Each perspective is valuable in helping us gather a comprehensive understanding of your school’s garden initiatives.
The information gathered by this survey will be used to:
- Better understand the current state of school garden programs in Minnesota
- Identify perceived and experienced barriers to these programs
- Gauge interest in different educational resources related to school gardens
- Plan Minnesota's first-ever School Garden Week
- Identify activities of interest for the 2025 Schoolyard Gardens Conference
- Identify topics of interest for a gardening “how to” video series
