Join the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience
The Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) has a simple aim – to close the education gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. It is designed to support them to transition to university, further study or employment at the same rate as their non-Indigenous peers.
In just a couple of hours, you can help transform a life forever. Sign on as a mentor in the Gippsland AIME program and lead the change that you want to see in your region. Indigenous and non-indigenous mentors welcome.
You’ll need:
• A Working With Children Check (or willingness to get one!)
• A little time up your sleeve
• A passion for empowering young people to be their best selves
You’ll receive:
• Cultural awareness training
• Support from the AIME team
• The immense satisfaction of applying your leadership skills
There are two ways to participate:
Join a Program Day
Come along to Federation University in Churchill for a one-day event.
Program Days bring together AIME participants from schools across the region. The day includes a range of activities, designed to connect students to their culture and helping them develop their confidence, creativity, resilience and problem-solving skills.
Join a Tutor Squad
Volunteer one hour per week for ten weeks in your hometown.
The Tutor Squads are a structured program where mentors are paired with students to help them work through their homework, along with physical and cultural activities.
Days and times depend on individual schools.
I’m keen – how do I get involved?
