The NAPABA Law Foundation has partnered with the Choi Family to create the Han C. Choi Scholarship, to honor a NAPABA Trailblazer, mentor and leader, who embodies grit and courage in the face of great adversity. Apply by April 18, 2025 - 5 pm ET.
Eligibility
• To be eligible, an applicant must be enrolled as a full time or part time 1L or 2L law student in an Association of American Law School (AALS)-accredited law school.
• The candidate must exhibit academic excellence, leadership, volunteerism, mentorship experience and demonstrate an interest in AAPI civic issues. Special consideration will also be given to applicants who have been adversely affected by cancer (as a survivor, or family member of a victim or survivor).
Award
• The Han C. Choi Scholarship will provide $5,000.00 in total for a finalist.
• Award of scholarship funds under this program must be used to further the recipient’s law school education.
• Award will be presented at the 2025 Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association (GAPABA) Annual Gala on (May 2025, date and time TBD). Recipient must accept award at the event. All travel and lodging expenses will be paid for by GAPABA.
In addition to the monetary award, the winner of the Han C. Choi Scholarship will be provided with mentorship assistance to support the student's career development. The student will have access to experienced lawyers who work in corporations, law firms and government as a resource for ongoing advice and potential opportunities.
Documents Needed
• Current resume.
• At least one letter of recommendation written within the past year.
• A personal statement of no more than 500 words, explaining:
o Your past or present activities showing commitment to the public interest or the AAPI community.
o If the applicant has been adversely affected by cancer (as a survivor, or family member of a victim or survivor).
• A copy of your most recent law school transcript (unofficial or official) from an AALS-accredited law school. Grades from the academic term immediately preceding the summer are not required.
