The Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship recognizes the importance of hard work and dedication. Colonel Farris, a West Point graduate, had a distinguished military career and served as a member of the University of Florida Army ROTC cadre. After retiring, he dedicated ten years (1963-1973) at UF as a Foreign Student Advisor, assisting hundreds of exiled Cubans in gaining admission to the university.
This scholarship awards $1,500 grants to deserving undergraduate or graduate students attending the University of Florida.

Application Requirements
A complete application will include:
  • Resume/CV (maximum of 2 pages)
  • One letter of recommendation
  • A short essay response
  • Copy of student transcript(s)
  • Ability to demonstrate financial need
Undergraduate and Graduate Applicant Criteria
  • Open to well-rounded UF students who excel in leadership, service, and scholarship at the University of Florida and in the Hispanic-Latino community
  • Scholarship funds are only applicable to UF programs of study
  • Student must be enrolled in the Fall 2025 semester
  • Undergraduate: Currently enrolled at UF seeking a bachelor’s degree, and must have completed two full-time semesters or equivalent
  • Graduate: Must be in a current UF graduate program of study OR have been accepted into a UF graduate program of study
  • Transcript required 3.0 GPA in undergrad coursework; 3.25 for graduate
  • Must not have been prior winner of the Farris scholarship

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
To determine if a student meets the University's definition of need, they must have completed the FAFSA. If the FAFSA results indicate a need then the student is considered eligible for a need-based scholarship from UF. In addition, for UF-AHA scholarship(s), the "Student Authorization to Release Financial Information" form must be complete (more information below).

Need-Based Status
Applicants who have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") are not required to submit any further financial documentation. Applicants not eligible for federal aid should complete and submit a copy of the Net Price Calculator Summary with the scholarship application. Student Authorization to Release Financial Information
For consideration for UF-AHA financial need scholarships, students must complete the "Student Authorization to Release Financial Information" form authorizing release to "UF Hispanic Alumni" and "UF Alumni Association" (instructions below) found at ONE.UF (https://one.uf.edu/).
