  • have a negative impact on the well-being of neighbouring communities;
  • result in a loss of materials that could be recycled;
  • is detrimental to the environment due to the generation of greenhouse gases;
  • can lead to contamination of groundwater and to waterways; and
  • create amenity problems associated with odour, dust, litter, vermin and noise.

When thinking about how household waste is managed please indicate how important each of the following are to you? (If using phone, rotate screen to see all options)

Question Title

* 9. Foodwaste includes vegetables, meat, fish, dairy, bread and essentially all left overs or waste food from the household. How do you dispose of food waste from your household?

  Never Sometimes Mostly Always
In the garbage bin

In my worm farm
I feed it to my chickens / animals

Question Title

* 10. In Moyne Shire almost half of the waste (42.5%) in an average household garbage bin is made up of food scraps and garden waste. The contents of the garbage bin goes to landfill. This food waste would be turned into compost if it was put in the greenwaste bin.

The greenwaste bin has been successful in diverting grass clippings and garden waste from the garbage bin, however more diversion of food waste from the garbage bin into the greenwaste bin is required to minimise environmental and financial costs.

We would like your help to understand what might be preventing households from using the greenwaste bin to dispose of more of their foodwaste. Please select any of the reasons below which might apply to your household.
