LCHS Counseling Needs Assessment 2014-15 School counseling programs are most effective when they meet the needs of students as identified by students, parents, teachers and administrators. Please check the five (5) services you believe are most needed Learning Skills: Help students develop memorization, study/homework, academic progress monitoring, and test preparation skills. Organization and Planning Skills: Help students learn time and task management skills to improve assignment completion and grades. Goal Setting, Action Planning and Self- Monitoring Skills: Help students learn how to write observable goals, take action to achieve those goals and monitor their progress toward goals. Academic Planning and Advisement: Help students learn about and monitor progress toward high school graduation. Help students learn about accelerated programs that allow students to earn college credit and access career training during high school. Assessment/Testing Support: Interpret test results to improve instruction, academic and career planning. College Readiness and Planning Skills: Help students acquire knowledge of courses and programs that prepare students for college, test scores that are indicative of minimum college readiness, college admissions requirements, college majors and financial aid opportunities. Career Awareness and Planning: Help students acquire knowledge of work habits that lead to success at school and on the job, career interests, high demand, high wage career employment areas, and high school and college/postsecondary career training opportunities. Individual Short-Term Counseling and Support: Provide short-term counseling support to help students learn ways to effectively manage thoughts, feelings and behaviors, set personal goals, relate well to others, make effective choices, and solve problems. Communication Skills: Help students learn skills for attending, active listening, identifying and communicating thoughts and feelings, clarifying understanding and asking for help. Relationship Skills: Help students develop skills for making friends and managing relationship challenges (e.g. teacher-student, student-student). Decision Making/Problem Management Skills: Help students learn how to solve problems, manage conflicts, and make effective choices. Health, Wellness and Safety Skills: Help students learn healthy life skills and skills for remaining safe at school, at home and in the community (e.g. child abuse prevention, bullying prevention, dating violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, human growth and development).
