Operating Budget
On Friday, November 8, Vice-President (Academic) L. Pauline Rankin and Interim Vice-President (Finance and Administration) Angela Marcotte wrote to the Carleton Community under the stated objective of providing an “Operation Budget Update”.
The email purported to be sharing a “difficult message about the current state and projected outlook of the university’s financial sustainability” pointing in particular to tuition freezes, “a stagnated government operating grant”, and caps on international students as causes for a “significantly higher” operating deficit than the one predicted at the beginning of the 2024-25 fiscal year. How much higher? They haven’t said. The Presidents reported that Carleton is implementing a “Financial Sustainability Framework”. Details? TBA. In the interim Carleton administration thinks it may be possible to crowdsource solutions and has called on the community share thoughts and suggestions through the provost’s website.
CUASA understands given the tone of the messaging from the University members might be reluctant to give their name to the employer with their suggestions. We urge you to give your feedback here so the CUASA can forward it anonymously to the provost on your behalf.
Let the administration know that you expect them to safeguard the future of the institution in ways that protect the Carleton community and the quality education we provide.
