York University plans to open a new Markham campus with a target opening date in 2021. The enrolment is projected to be greater than 4000 students, and the campus generate more than 400 new jobs (including new academic positions). Like other satellite campuses of other institutions (Sheridan College for example in Mississauga), there could be further expansion depending on demand. Markham and surrounding areas are developing very fast. Demand will quite likely generate further expansion and more jobs. The Employer recently confirmed that our current Collective Agreement (CA) will apply to the Markham campus. We are considering special provisions in our CA in relation to the Markham campus. Everything else negotiated for Keele and Glendon will apply there too.
