Derbyshire Dales District Council are looking to introduce food waste and recycling collections for businesses from 1st April 2025.

The service will be offered to all business premises in the District but please be aware that from 1 April 2025, all businesses in the UK with over 10 FTE staff, will by law, have to segregate their food waste and recycling for a separate collection.

A person who presents commercial waste for collection that is similar in nature and composition to household waste (“relevant waste”), must ensure that relevant waste is collected separately for recycling or composting.

Relevant waste means:

(a) glass;
(b) metal;
(c) plastic;
(d) paper and card;
(e) food waste.

Relevant waste falling within categories (a) to (d) must be collected separately from waste within category (e). Therefore from 1st April 2025, businesses with over 10 FTE staff, producing these types of waste, will need to have separate containers for general waste, mixed recycling and food.

Derbyshire Dales District Council will communicate with all their current trade waste customers to ensure they remain compliant.
