Colac High School Master Plan Survey |
1. Introduction to the Survey
25% |
Colac Otway Shire wants you to complete a community survey to help us in developing a plan for the future use of the former Colac High School site.
Since the school closed in 2009 Colac Otway Shire has had a number of suggestions for what to do with the site. These have ranged from a hub for a range of community services and agencies to an art and heritage space in the classrooms and other buildings and to social housing and various sporting activities in the open space.
However, the former high school site is not owned by Colac Otway Shire. It is owned by the State Government. Usually when a school closes down it is sold. This time the State Government has partnered with Colac Otway Shire to support the creation of a Master Plan to enable local input into future planning for the site. Some part of the site will be sold and the heritage building must be preserved but all suggestions and ideas are welcome. The final plan for the site will need to identify an economic strategy for how buildings will be acquired, adapted, and maintained for future community use.
All ideas and input made by the community since the school closed has been provided to ‘Community by Design’ who are leading the master planning process. This survey is also available in hard copy at all Colac Otway Shore customer service centres. This is just one part of a range of opportunities that will be provided to the community to enable you to participate in this process.
