Introduction

Why are we consulting?
All local authorities have a statutory duty to ensure that the provision of childcare in their area is sufficient to meet the needs of parents, to allow them to work or undertake education or training.

This survey is to find out from parents / carers what their needs are in relation to childcare places in York. The information will help us plan for sufficient high-quality childcare places.

Who should complete this survey?
This survey should only be completed by parents / carers of children aged 0 - to 14 years old (or up to 18 years for children with a disability) who live in York / use childcare in York.

Childcare places include those offered at a childminder, pre-school, day nursery, school nursery, breakfast / after school care or holiday club, all must be Ofsted registered.

Answers will be kept confidential and parents/carers will not be identified in any way in the reporting and use of this survey. We estimate the survey will take less than 10 minutes to complete.

What happens next?
The information will be used to inform our 2024 Annual Childcare Sufficiency Assessment, which will be published on our website once available. It will also help us plan to make sure there are enough high-quality childcare places at the times and in the places that families need it.

The survey will be open between 30th August and 30th September 2024.

Our survey asks for some personal information which you may choose not to give. We do not publish or share any information which can identify you. Please read our privacy notice to find out more about how we protect your personal information. We will ask for your consent to this at the start of the survey.
