LiisBeth's Story Poll and Reader Check-in Survey 2020

Dear Advocate and Changemaker,

LiisBeth Media is community of intersectional feminist entrepreneurs, innovators and community leaders--we think of ourselves as "solutionaries". We are values aligned with all those working for social, economic and environmental justice so all can flourish.

LiisBeth magazine is now four years old. We have published over 200 original stories written by over 30 diverse contributors.  We have published 61 newsletters. We have grown to 2,600 newsletter subscribers and over 19,000 unique annual readers online. Thanks to subscriber donations and event sales, we are getting stronger all the time. Still, we have work to do to achieve sustainability and more importantly, we are keen to serve you better.

COVID-19 stresses us out too but fortunately, we chose slow, cash in/cash out rooted growth over heavily financed fast growth.  So we are not in peril. But, to be honest, it sure would help to attract more donor subscribers.

You can help by take seven minutes to check in and let us know how you feel about our work. And where we can improve.

As a thank you for your time, we offer you this free download that consists of a report on women entrepreneur community support organizations, an introduction to the Feminist Business Model Canvas, Oxfam's  report on feminist leadership skills, a COVID-19 cash flow playbook, plus a few other goodies!

Thank you in advance. We so appreciate your time and generosity.

Let's get started!  This will only take seven minutes--tops!

In the meantime, be safe.  Feminist sci-fi writer, Octavia Butler wrote "God is change".  Her message? We can't prevent change, but we can work to shape it.

In Solidarity,

The LiisBeth Team

Question Title

* 1. How do you most often engage with LiisBeth? (Check All That Apply)

Question Title

* 2. Liisbeth exists for multiple reasons. How important are these reasons to you?

Not at all important to me Somewhat important to me Very important to me SUPER important to me!
The fact we are 100 per cent  womxn-owned/diverse-women led in an industry where 90 per cent of media outlets (including indie) are male owned and approximately  75%+ is male (predominately white) led. We believe that our collective cultural making narratives would be better balanced --and in turn help drive change that works for everyone--if there were more sustainable diverse womxn-led/owned media outlets in the media sector.
A belief that feminist ideas, values, and voices are critical to the advancement of humanity. Currently, feminist critiques, experiences and solutions are undervalued and under published. We aim to change that.
Intersectional feminists don't only observe and critique,  attend marches, and writer letters to officials.  They also start and run feminist values aligned enterprises of all types (for profit, nonprofit, co-operatives), create new products and services that benefits womxn, girls, gender nonbinary and trans people. Their work, contribution to the economy and cultural discourse is underrecognized.  We aim to surface it--and support their enterprises-- by writing about it and marketing the stories we publish.
We create fair income and professional writing development opportunities for womxn, trans, and gender nonbinary writers, editors, creators, and students.  In essence, our storytellers. At present, womxn journalists/writers/editors are significantly underrepresented in mainstream media.  They get fewer assignments and paid significantly less for freelance writing.  We work to address this.
We play an active role in advocating to government on behalf of community centered, "grow in place" womxn-led enterprises. We work to influence policy regarding SME supports for womxn, and women's enterprise strategies.  We play an active part in the women's enterprise ecosystem's development and serve as the voice for purpose led, feminist enterprises.
We are convinced that by writing about feminist enterprises "solutionaries", the feminist economy, and profile feminist businesses, we are giving visibility to an important sector which can held lead the way to a transformation from a neo-liberal economy to a care-centred economy where all can flourish, and also help these enterprises succeed by profiling them (creates market opportunities).
We actively work to support allied enterprises and women's business organizations such as SheEO, Canadian Women's Chamber of Commerce, How She Hustles, Immigrant Women's Business Network, other feminist publications, Feminist Art Conference and many many more. We are stronger together.
Liisbeth aims to remain open access (no pay walls) to our magazine and newsletters because we don't believe quality journalism and information should be privileged or only for those who can afford to pay.  Thus, we operate on donor subscriptions. And we work to generate alternative revenue streams to maintain open access.
We work to ensure that 30 per cent of our writers/editors are BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA2S women and that 30 per cent of our stories profile the work of feminist BIPOC womxn, LGBTQIA2S and nonbinary entrepreneurs.
We are a transinclusive, intersectional, radical systems change and eco feminist organization who feel aligned with Bell Hook's definition of visionary feminism “Visionary feminism is a wise and loving politics. It is rooted in the love of male and female being, refusing to privilege one over the other. The soul of feminist politics is the commitment to ending patriarchal domination of women and men, girls and boys. Love cannot exist in any relationship that is based on domination and coercion. A genuine feminist politics always brings us from bondage to freedom, from lovelessness to loving.”
