Dear friends and family,

I have partnered with Distance For Difference (D4D), a registered NPO (182-816), to raise funds for Altena Primary School. Over the last seventeen years, D4D made a significant contribution towards the wellbeing of children, be it through children’s charities or individual children in need.  They use sport to generate funds for distribution to various organisations involved in caring for children. To date, they have raised and distributed more than R10 million.

On 16 October 2022, I will participate in the Cape Town Marathon. This marathon is a 42km race through the city of Cape Town. This marathon is attempting to be Africa's first WorldMarathonMajor...Through my participation, I want to dedicate 42 km's to 42 kids.

Altena Primary School is situated in the Heart of Helderberg. As a School with high academic standards and a devoted, loving staff, its reach is from the ends of Khayaletsha all the way up Sir Lowry's pass.

A lot of our children however comes from extreme poverty and compromised backgrounds. Since 2018, we've seen the need for additional emotional and trauma support and started a playroom, where some of these children got the opportunity to play with toys for the first time. The playroom is a safe space, where children sits with a therapist to process their traumatic life stories. We have seen the benefit of creating a space where the children can give outing to their emotions and start to process their stories and want to invest in them even more.

They currently have 42+ children on the list in need of emotional support, but lack of funds prohibit a therapist to be on site every day and results in the fact that some can only be seen every 2nd or 3rd week.

All the funds raised, will go towards the set up of the playroom and more hours of on site therapy.

We extend an invitation to you to partner with us in this.

Kind regards

Melindi Douglas
