Some important information to know before you begin your registration

MODERNA COVID-19 Vaccine Information

Vaccine facts
  • The COVID -19 vaccine is not a live virus vaccine and cannot infect anyone with COVID-19.
  • This vaccine is 94% effective. This means there is a small chance you could still get infected by the virus after vaccination. Therefore, you should continue to wear a mask, social distance and wash hands frequently.
  • You must take the second dose to become fully protected. It takes 1-2 weeks after the second dose to have full protection.
  • If you have had COVID-19, it is still recommended that you receive the vaccine.
What to expect after you are vaccinated:
  • Most people will have pain, redness and/or soreness at the injection site for 1-3 days. You can use over the counter pain relievers and an ice pack for these symptoms.
  • Many people will have headache, fever, muscle pain and/or fatigue that could last 1-3 days. You can use over the counter pain relievers and fever reducers for these symptoms.
  • A few people can have nausea or swollen lymph nodes for 1-3 days.
  • If any of these symptoms last for more than 72 hours, you should isolate, call you doctor and get tested for COVID.
  • Rarely, a person can have an allergic reaction which includes hives, difficulty breathing/wheezing, swelling of the face and throat, rash and/or anaphylaxis. Please go to the emergency room if you experience these symptoms.
