Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) is reflecting on how we describe the primary communities and populations that we serve. Traditionally, CBRC has used the language of 'gay men' to describe our primary population, as opposed to using behaviour-based language like ‘men who have sex with men’. While this term was intended to be inclusive of all gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men, we recognize that the term “gay men” may not adequately reflect the identity and experience of many within the broader queer community, including trans and non-binary folk who remain underrepresented in our work.

As our organization continues to support the health of sexual minority and gender diverse men in Canada, including Indigenous communities which have had their unique Two-Spirit cultural identities erased through colonization, CBRC is committed to learning more on how we can be more inclusive and responsive to the needs of the communities we serve. To that end, CBRC is conducting a community consultation to inform the most appropriate language for our organization to use.

Please respond to the following questions to help inform our consultation.
