Over 3,000 Graduate Student Workers (GSWs) across the University of Southern California (USC) stand united in our fight for a more just and equitable workplace - and a stronger USC. After GSWs voted 93% YES this February to form our union, GSWOC-UAW, we’re now stepping up to create real change. This summer, GSWs made the following proposals at the bargaining table:

  • Strong protections for discrimination, harassment, bullying, and abusive conduct: right to a timely and survivor-centered grievance process, interim measures for survivors, and peer-led trainings
  • Support for International GSWs: wraparound onboarding support, coverage of visa fees, tax filing assistance, and real support (including a legal fund and paid time off) for immigration-related legal proceedings
  • Union Security and Access: the ability to pool our resources together and build a strong union, including by exercising the right to organize on campus in our own workplaces
    Union Rights:
the ability to enforce our contract through a strong grievance and arbitration process
We, the Graduate Student Workers of USC, do critical research that brings in tens of millions of dollars of grant money, teach tens of thousands of tuition-paying students, and make incalculably valuable contributions to the USC community. USC works because we do.

We, the undersigned GSWs, demand that USC administration:
  • Agree to our common-sense demands to make USC a better and more equitable place to work
  • Bargain in good faith with GSWs, without delays
  • Make a real commitment, beyond the bargaining table, to systemic change
GSWs can only win big at the bargaining table if we build power with mass participation campuswide. Let's send a clear message to USC administration. Sign on to the letter and pledge to take action below!
