The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is charged with integrating stormwater pollution impact awareness into the environmental events, programs, and partnerships that they participate in. PennDOT is conducting this public outreach survey to evaluate the baseline understanding of “Stormwater Pollution Impact Awareness” in target audiences comprised of group leaders, participants, and volunteers who pick up litter along roadways and waterways throughout the year. These groups include the Adopt-A-Highway program, Pick-up PA, and other clean-up volunteers.

PennDOT will use the information gathered during the survey before integrating new educational efforts to increase stormwater pollution impact awareness. PennDOT will then report on the outreach efforts done to accomplish the awareness integration effort. A follow-up survey will be conducted with the same target audience, and the results of that survey will be included in PennDOT’s Annual MS4 Status Report. Stormwater pollution impact awareness integration efforts will be adjusted as necessary, based on the survey results and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection staff feedback.
