Tasmanian Service kill meat processing Survey - Farmers |
Why is Sprout doing this survey?
This survey is being conducted in order to understand the current and potential demand for livestock processing by way of service kills, across Tasmania.
Who is this survey for?
Any farmer of livestock for the consumption of meat, in Tasmania, where they retain the ownership of their product.
This includes:
- those who are already processing and selling their meat, using a service-kill abattoir.
- those who would like to explore selling their meat but haven't ventured down this road yet.
- those who are currently using home-kill services who are looking to move towards selling their product in the future.
This survey does not include farmers who are selling their livestock through an agent, or direct to an abattoir and have no intention of changing this business model.
What are we hoping to understand?
The questions are designed to gather information about level of processing demand (current and potential), location, species type, full supply chain data including transport to and from abattoirs and butchery services.
We are also hoping to understand what farmers believe would be their ideal service provision in this space.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. We are excited by this project and we can't wait to work collaboratively with the farming sector, government and other stakeholders to find solutions.
