BASM is one of the few humanitarian mission organizations that has non-medical volunteers working side-by-side with our medical volunteers during our surgical missions. Our team strives to provide the highest quality medical and surgical services to the people of Daet, Camarines Norte, Philippines. Each of our volunteers are expected to adhere to the same standards of professional conduct and safety that are expected from our hospitals at home.
While we try to make your experience memorable and comfortable, you can expect to work long hours, causing more physical exhaustion than you are accustomed to, and to lodge in basic accommodations (sharing rooms with other volunteers). As a BASM volunteer, your commitment is to work hard, be flexible, act professionally and to act as a diplomat during the entire mission. The people of the Philippines are warm, accommodating and appreciative. We will experience the Philippine culture, food and customs during our mission.
Each year we have a limited number of spaces for our non-medical volunteers. Volunteers should have educational interests in the medical field. We do our best to make each volunteer feel part of our medical team. Our non-medical volunteer leader will determine the service needs for the day and assign tasks to each non-medical volunteer. We hope that this experience will provide a stepping stone to your educational pursuits.
Please note: All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
